I remember when I was a young kid they had the Johnny Horton song North to Alaska on the jukebox at The Beaver Creek Store in the Sawtooth Basin, Idaho. We used to love getting to play that song which is a great example of Johnny Horton's storytelling ballads, many of which expressed great sagas through music. Another great ballad of his is The Battle of New Orleans. Johnny Horton passed on at the young age of thirty-five, victim of a drunk driver. There a number of curious coincidence connected to his passing including the fact he was married to the same woman that Hank Williams had been to at the time of his death.
